Piece of petrified wood

I think Dad gave this too me when he got home from some business trip. I thought it was even cooler than that little bags of peanuts he usually gave us.
Years later, I saw petrified wood in the wild when Dave and I drove cross country and made a stop at the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. Part of me expected it to look like the Woody Pecker cartoon with tall trees as hard as metal.
When I discovered that the land is actually covered with fallen logs that have turned to stone, I wasn’t disappointed. Mainly because we made plenty of erection jokes like, “That’s some pretty stiff wood.”
